This moves me so much more than the original, the subtlety of it makes it awsome

Totally untrue. I have the original vinyl without the edit. I am not sure why it was cut for the video.

He says himself he was drunk during the performance and was an alcoholic during the 70s, no doubt you know his own life better than he does?

the news at the time was that pete actually fell asleep during the number and had to be roused to complete it, hence the weird edit. i remember reading that in rolling stone. who knows??

I didn't believe in God until that last segment, where Townshend sang lead and closed out with the most underrated acoustic guitar in rock history.

A different dimension? That's interesting - I was looking for this clip. When me and & my old man - who's a damn fine guitar player himself :) - saw this in '82, we were just floored. I'd never heard Townsend play acoustic, and afterwards, we both agreed on one thing - he sang this song like he KNEW something nobody else did, and so wanted his audience to understand. I know, it sounds like pretentious twaddle, but it really had an effect on us both.
