This is a lesson on how the minor pentatonic scales work all over the fret board. Likewise you will learn all the modes and their patterns up and down the fretboard. And finally, you will learn how to use the pentatonic scales and the modes together to improvise and improve your soloing capabilities. . . all without theory (well. . . just a touch).

  • This is a very fine representation of the modes. I've known elements of this stuff for 40+ years, but I'm finally trying to learn some soloing on a guitar and this is really helpful. The one thing I have a problem with, is your chart referencing the Locrian mode to a Bbdim. That's not right. Locrian is built on a Bmin7b5. Bbdim notes are Bb-Db-F, while Bmin7b5 is B-D-F-A. All those notes are in the C major scale. Bmin7b5 is sometimes referred to as B half diminished, but never as Bbdim.

  • @Opus2MobileSolutions Hey, good catch. I never noticed that. It should be B and I say that in the vid but wrote Bb for some reason. You're the first to recognize that. Cheers!

  • Thanks for the video. With regard to the five positions of the A minor pentatonic. I'm not sure if you mentioned this, is there is a specific way to shift or transition from position to position. For example, cab the shift be at any of the overlapping notes? Thanks.

  • @IrishBoson Yes you want to use the overlapping notes as a way to get from one pattern to another. A good exercise is to learn two patterns and then practice moving from one to the other on each string. Thanks.

  • Who's Lorain?

  • @BonjourRich She's a dissonant witch . . . LOL. Yes a spelling error.
