You can tell a cat person by the way they play with kitties... Well, today, we went to the zoo & were playing with the bobcats. Little did we know the surprise adventure we encountered! First, the cat was eyeing up our bag (all it had inside was a box with dinos & t-shirt we bought at the dino exhibit). We LOVE cats & wanted to entertain it. I swung the bag back & forth; he followed it, swatted at it a few times, as you can tell by the bag is already ripped. Why wasn't my mom filming?! This bobcat was TOO CUTE! ...then, the video tells the rest. We IMMEDIATELY said, "Hide your bags. Do not run." and went to find zoo personnel about the escape!!! Good thing it happened at closing. I'm sure they'll reinforce the cable enclosure not.
What I'm happy about is that this happened to US and not teens or toddlers tormenting or threatening the cat instead of just playing with him. I'm not sure what would have gone down if it had been a little bit different situation. Good thing kitty was just playing with us & not stalking, also.
MEOW! Enjoy.

  • This was at the Audubon Zoo in New Orleans. I've never heard of this happening before, but it's an old exhibit, so things at the top holding the cable could have rotted? unsure. There are a few other videos of the bobcats & their exhibit at the Audubon zoo! Obviously none like this one. She was just being a Cat!! You can see from her "what the hell just happened" face that she was just as surprised as we were.

The zoo workers very quickly came to her cage when we immediately notified them.

  • My dumb ass would be standing there dangling a ball of yarn or something!

  • Yes, that is a poor enclosure for sure. I own a pet bobcat, and know that bobcats that are wild and are not pets can attack and will. They are very cute to look at but they have the same exact instincts as tigers and lions do and have the hardest bite of the cat family in relation to size. Their teeth and claws are razor sharp and I have seen people with wild ones get severely injured and hospitalized. Just as a lion, tiger...they are fine but once outside it is very dangerous. What zoo?
