Crown Imperial is an orchestral march by the English composer William Walton. It was first performed at the coronation of King George VI in 1937, and substantially revised in 1963. Walton composed the march originally for performance at the coronation of King Edward VIII, which was scheduled for 12 May 1937. However, Edward abdicated in 1936. The coronation was held on the scheduled day, with Edward's brother George VI being crowned instead.

  • @TheNewMrsStyles Not really, but thanks.

  • @CinnAlla William Walton, orchestra performing unknown. Hope this helps! x

  • Can you name the orchestra and conductor please? (If it's on the text at the top of the page, I'm afraid that doesn't display in my browser)

  • One question! During the coronation of George VI when was this march played? At what point of the ceremony? Or is it merely a march composed for the occasion but never performed during the coronation? Who knows?

  • @classical38 i agree totally with you. Britain's alliance with the US is natural, and as it should be ( though we differ in many ways ). I can never understand those who say that our ties are more with europe than America. We should foster both, but I can honestly say that I would far rather put my faith in the US than 28 european contries who seem unable to put 2+2 together! Hail Walton....Hail Sousa :)

  • Is there a remix of this?

  • Cue stock footage of Lancasters, Spitfires and Hurricanes!

  • I'm playing this in 2 weeks time at my youth orchestra winter concert. Its the best piece we're playing.

  • @RoyalWeddingMusic TRH :-)
