  • these are the wrong questions to ask experts;

    the responses miss the mark about _where_ to find a suitable driver

    or drivers that are compatible with hardware from 1999-2003 it is *amazing* to observe the tasks that this humble OS can do with so *few resources

    however

    driver management is not the strongest feature of this OS

  • @JohnnyCantTube I don't even use ubuntu anymore Unity is shit Debian and linux mint are far better for me

    but yes linux sucks for hardware sometimes

  • @spindlegrinder

    yes, agree with you

    I had to revernt from Ubuntu 11 back to 10.10 for stability

    due to very poor operation of desktop enviro

    found ways to integrate REDHAT drive into the mix that :partially: works for me

    from the OEM as an interim step-

    found that it helps to know which chipset is used on mombrd and then backtrack

  • @JohnnyCantTube I got debian on half my hard drive and I'm trying out Linux mint 12 on the other half gnome 3 isn't too bad if you install Brightside an edge flipping app and I also installed Faenza Black to get rid of the green folders and hope gtk theme which gives you nice black window borders. it's still a bit buggy but i think i can get used to Gnome 3 if not like you say theirs always an older version of either ubuntu of linux mint but they are only maintained untill next year

  • @tosiuk I don't know lol i'm not a pro with linux I just saw the answer xrandr -s 1280x1024 (enter) on another video to help people.... I just got Linux lol... sry :S

  • @spindlegrinder top panel + mozilla nav bar + tabs = 20% of my screen cant really say this is normal to me. Had to install ubuntu again after going through peoples experiments i ended up with no OS :P so from scratch again i guess cant remember now how i installed the drivers as i am pretty new to life with linux commands anyhow i will find a way.

    Thanks anyway!

  • @tosiuk 1280 x 1024 should be as high as you need to go, I use a 32 inch lcd tv and the resolution is 1360 x 768 and everything looks fine, is it an older laptop?
