If it is Cheney, I doubt it was.

You have a good point. If you pay less, cover people more, and there is no real evidence the quality suffers significantly, it is better. And if the doctors screw up, we can always do the old American thing.
Sue the hell out of them.

Well, the value of the medicine doesn't go down.
Big pharma just sells the same product for less because every extra bit sold is pretty much pure profit.
Arguably doctors in a public system with lower competition will be less skilled. But that's also in part because they couldn't afford 400k$ in tuition fees (even though most of uni is payed by the gvmt in europe).
Ultimately the quality/price ratio is better, and if you're not satisfied you can always go to a private clinic.

Cost less dollar amounts but the value of the product will go down. Thats a fact too :P

It costs less when it's run by the government.
That's a fact.
European governments pay much much less for medicine and interventions than US insurance companies have to. This is beause a government monopoly has more bargaining power.
I don't know how Universal health care will play out in the US. But in europe, we pay less in taxes towards healthcare than the cost of insurance in the US. Also, insurances give only partial coverage and take a pretty big cut of your money to deny coverage.
Traditionally Congresspeople voted for compromises -- the best that they could get given the strength of the opposition. They weren't always happy and would vow to change/improve what they just voted for.
Today's black/white take-no-prisoners, make no compromise is relatively new (think Gingrich). It's not good for the country.
Oh yeah, FISA is bad. But without 60 votes in the Senate this year's bill was probably the best that would pass.
Sad, yes. But Ombama's position is logical.

We all chose Ron Paul to begin with then floated to Obama when we realized Ron Paul couldnt win. If McCain wins, expect war, expect inflation, expect limited information, expect bush again.
Only a misinformed, or racist, wouldnt vote for Obama over McBush.
Btw the federal reserve is the problem, but destroying it would cause the remaining money to goto other nations. Causing our money to become greater in value but more scarce in America. Get informed.
