This is part one out of three of my playthrough of the PlayStation 2 3D rendition of the legendary rail shooter Space Harrier as playable in the Sega Classics Collection, complete with an all new techno/electro remixed soundtrack.

Being the Space Harrier purist that I am, I switched off fractal mode to opt in for the checkerboard ground tiles and so that the in-game voiceover still says 'Welcome to the fantasy zone, get ready!'.

Note that I do not rate this particular version of Space Harrier highly, as it has lost its speed, edge and difficulty that was present in its original 2D glory. On the contrary, the vibrant colours and the techno/electro remixed soundtrack is a nice addition.

  • Isn't he suppose to 'ride'' that bike? and why is he dressed like a football player, isn't he suppose to be dressed like a astronaut or something? the game is called ''space'' harrier

    You're Doing It Wrong

  • @TheCommentGuy8 You mean SEGA is doing it wrong. For instance I played the demo of Sonic 4 E1 and felt dissapointed after that.

  • Ha the bonus level took FOREVER. Definately slower than the original. I still want this game, but it looks pretty low-budget. The shitty explosions make it look like a flash game. Space Harrier for the Saturn is the way to go for SH perfection.

  • "Welcome to How to ruin a good game with a remake, were your host, SEGA, and now, for this crappy remake of the once great game. Instead of just re-releasing the old space harrier and making a ton of cash, were going to remake it so it SUCKS."

  • @gamein60seconds Panet Harriers is inspired by this game ^^

Space harrier is the first game of this genre developed in 1985.

Panet Harriers is continuation of the Space harrier series.

  • @TheCommentGuy8 no he isn't supposed to ride the bike, its a combination jet pack and laser cannon. Jeans boots and a jacket have been Harri's clothing of choice since 1985. And by you're reckoning, Mario should have fought a rampant Donkey, Call of Duty should be full of mobile phones, and Pacman should have had a man eating the dots and not a yellow circle. Don't think Yellowcircleman would have proven very popular :)

  • Hmm, looks inspired by Planet Harriers but nowhere nears as good.

  • Where can I buy this game?? I loved the original Space Harrier for Master System

  • a Space Harrier would be great on the Nintendo 3DS

  • good work sega king arcade

  • Am I the ONLY one who doesn't have a problem with this? I like how it looks, how it sounds, and it keeps the gameplay of the original classic intact. Sure, I would like the original model for Squilla, but that's it.

  • The game looks good, and to be honest i don't see why people bash it, i am very familiar with the original space hairier, and it it a favorite, this looks good to, i wish Sega would make a legitimate complete fast passed next gen good graphic-ed reboot to the series, like make a new one that is its own game and not a part of a collection.

  • got this game
