At last we have a longer one for you! This is a fairly simple rock cover of the the music from "Lava Reef Zone" in Sonic & Knuckles, with a slight hint at the "Hidden Palace Zone" music too. The longest zone in any Mega Drive Sonic game, Lava Reef rules. So does the music. Thus, we had to cover it.

This is pretty much a direct cover of the version in the game. We've merged the two tracks together a bit, though and while there isn't a solo there's some little embelishments on the original melody. Drums, Guitar, Bass, Keyboard. Again, by the UK-based rock videogame music cover band The Red Wings.

  • You've got a few sour notes in there, but overall it's excellent. I just want to ask: When you make songs, are you recording everyone together in a studio, or do you take the individual tracks and put them together with a sound editing program?

  • It can be a mix. We never record EVERYTHING in one go. Usually the keyboard/synth parts are done seperately first, with synthesised guitar laid down as a guideline for the real guitar, with blank spots for solos. Then we do the drums.

Then we record the guitar. Sometimes we record more than one guitar at once to enable a 'live' feel on harmonies and stuff - it sometimes isn't the same when people play a harmony part in at two different times.

  • theres a bit too much going on at parts, and it makes the mix kinda sloshy sounding.

other than that, this was pretty stellar

  • 5 people got ROASTED!

  • You guys rock!(Pun unintended) Do you take requests?

  • Huh, I never knew the Detroit Red Wings composed video game music in their off season!

  • this is from lava reef act 2 or also called hidden palace

  • I think you escape the notes a little (in purpose, i guess), but it's awesome!

  • Very cool, 5 stars

  • Dude this is awesome! I always wanted to hear this song covered like this!!! I hate the smooth jazz version that project chaos did.
