A time lapse clip of cutting a through wedged half-dovetail/mortise. This will be the top of the post which receives the tenon from the tie beam. The 'smoke' show is actually steam created by sawing through the wet timber.

  • That was really cool! What was the elapsed time?

  • The elapsed time was about 2 hours.

  • Is that a Barr Chisel? Nice joinery by the way. Nice to see other people doing it by hand still, instead of the CNC BS.

  • Thanks for the comment. Yes, it is a Barr Chisel that is able to slice wood quite nicely. I even managed to cut the very tip of my finger with it once! Now I know what they mean by 'blood' sweat & tears. : )

  • that was sweet, wish it was longer

  • It will be longer once I get all the clips together after I've finished assembling this frame.
