Filmed inside Manchester Victoria West Junction signalbox in September 1992.
Shows the signalmen at work as well as their view of the outside world.

  • Is Rod checking his fly isnt open at the end

  • Did you notice it was Malc in the red shirt. That's why Rod's pants were undone.

  • If you had an hour-long DVD compilation of footage of the old Manchester Victoria I would buy it :D I was 6 in 1992, wish I'd been a bit older so I could appreciate the complexity of the operation more and remember more about it!

  • As an ex Manchester signalman I have hours of footage in and around Victoria Station filmed between 1990 and 1997. I have been considering putting together DVD's. I'll keep you posted. Thanks for the great feedback.

  • Interesting how Manchester Victoria looked so grand, until the MEN Arena ruined it. Great insight into the past, and with proper trains to boot! Five stars.

  • Fantastic Video !, remember the station well - They build a smaller station and then want more trains, excellent planning.

  • Obviously filmed before the derailment as signal VW73 is still standing.

John,do you remember the derailment that took place that demolished signal 73?.

I think that it was done by a passing "figgelers"LOL

I vaguely remember signal 73 being repaired by being scaffolded on to the top of the parapet wall.

There wasnt much point in the S&T doing a permanent repair as the abolition of west junction etc was more or less imminent.

Wish it was still like that today.

    I miss the old Victoria.

  • Went thru Vic on the Humber Oil to Ellesmere Port Gas, both ways 3 to 4 times per week from 1995 to 2002., Also the York Papers during the week

We always ran through Vic at 0500hrs on the way to EP.

Now EP has gone so have the 37/47/56/60's, so Have I.

Took the money 4 years ago after 27.5 years as a guard, trainman and team member.

    Happy Days.

Now all I do is go with the wife shopping.

  • Loved the 80's best, all the 25's 40's, 45's 47's and a bit of everything else. Great memories of a pre MEN arena station

  • great footage vic as i will always remember it there from 85/94 bfeore going to sheffield still there on tpe

  • brings back memories for me as i was a trainman based at ellesmere port when this was filmed.

it's changed beyond recognition with the advent of the arena & privatisation of course.

    Great clip!

  • Victoria before it was ruined by that nasty development on top of it, lovely. Thanks.

  • Sounds a bit like Keith on the radio coming through from the platform. Nothing changes lol... Fitters attention all the time

  • I arrived of the Southern in '86 as a driver and spent 18 happy years here!
