Here SkyGrid's CEO, +Kevin Pomplun, shows me a system, called TouchTV, that SkyGrid is announcing today with LG (who won best of CES with its new OLED TVs).
You get a first look at it and we talk about what this means for the future of TV discovery.
What is it?
It lets you discover mainstream TV. You know, things like NBC, CBS, ESPN, ABC, CNN, etc. But you use a Tablet to do that (in this case an iPad). This makes a lot more sense to me than using a lame remote control to "stab" at a widget running on a TV across the room (which is what the CE industry is calling "Smart TV.")
But LG will let you choose whether you like the SmartTV approach or the Tablet approach. Me? I'm going with the tablet and am looking forward to trying this out.
One problem, though. While the UI is pretty darn good I'm not sure that the coverage of all the shows is good enough. This is why we're hoping Apple steps in and does something similar, but gets the licensing down so that we actually get ALL the standard mainstream TV channels onto the iPad. So far no one has really gotten "good enough" but this is a step forward and I hope Skygrid succeeds here.
What do you think?
This should be available on iPad today. More later.
@TheNickspillum yes it is go get the app its called LiveTv go get it from the app store.

This is ZappoTV accept they struck a deal with the networks. They really need to go dlna, and android as well, so that it works with a much larger selection of TVs.

But at the end of the day, is it just nice UI for a limited set of video clips that broadcasters allow? Its not showing programming that is actually showing up on my cable TV right now, right?
