What if a plebe doesn't have any previous shooting experience, can he/she join ?

I am freshman in highschool and i am currently Beginning shooting competitions. I have been a natural shot since I first began and I understand the techniques of being an accurate shooter. My dream is to go to the naval academy and join CAT. Do you have any suggestions on how to stand out to try to make the team because the video says only four plebes make it.

@caasikrap no, the only time you can try out for this team is plebe year.

@Ddddennis81 Some guys on the team shot a gun for the first time in their life during their plebe summer. As for now, just keep working out and practicing shooting if you have an opportunity.

@sandjpark Yes, CAT competes against Army, Air Force, and Coast Guard.

I am also going to be a plebe this year. if I don't make it in this year will I be able to try out during a different year?

@caasikrap You might be able to rejoin the team the following year as long as you did the initial screening but I know that the first year is the most crucial time for being selected. Just do your best when you do tryouts.

I'm going to be a plebe next year, are most of the guys who try out for this ex-enlisted or rifle-team etc.? I really want to do this but I only have basic experience in shooting... 22's, shotguns, low caliber pistols etc.

@Ddddennis81 Not at all. From what I gathered when I did the video, having some knowledge in guns and being in good physical condition will suffice. I know that the screening process is intensive and that is the first filter to the overall selection; so if anything, prepare for that. My advice would be to keep prepping for the summer and get out and continue to shoot (if possible...). However, you will get basic training in M16s and M11s this summer. Good luck.
