It's really admirable of you to have spent so much time to make this info available (and totally comprehensible) to people who can't afford a teacher or don't have the resources in their backyard to learn this stuff. I commend you!

How much of this should I learn before I am able to compose simple chiptunes?
I've just remembered that I have studied that when I was like 8 years old too but my parents made me sing in a chore. I didn't like it and I felt embarrassed. I think I did it for 2-3 years and then I dropped out at first opportunity. Maybe it was a mistake. Too bad I never learned to play the piano.

to the person whos wants to know if you need to know any music theory for music production, no you dont! if you can play the keyboard by ear and can programme then thats all you need.
music theory is for those who just want to learn the maths of music.
if you learn the basic notes and are blessed with natural talent you will be able to play an instrument without learning all music theory,

@mzzphit Glad to help ^_^
Yes, you can get by without knowing music theory, but if you look into history, every single great composer was well studied in music theory. In my own opinion I believe that trying to be a composer without music theory education is similar to trying to be an a scientist without taking any science courses. Of course you can do it, but it will put you at a disadvantage. On the flip side, music theory isn't a magic pill either, it's simply a tool. ^_^
