  • are WGS good with kids. i just got a WGS from a shelter and she is one. she is very hyper and licks my hands and face alot. how i can trained to go to the bathroom when he is staying in the garage. Will a litter box work you think. thank you

  • They are good with kids if kids are good with dogs! All dogs, regardless of breed, should be supervised with kids at all times. The licking is a submissive behaviour. A litterbox is for CATS not DOGS! You need to supervise and take her to the bathroom and praise when she does it at the right time. You need to train her to do the right thing. You should go to your local dog obedience club.

  • Don't give up - you need to work with him at home too!

  • Try play and food motivation. Do you take him to obedience classes?

  • So nice!! I love my WGSD too!

  • I love (and train) all dogs. BUT, there is no other breed that can do so many things as well as the GSD...not even close.

  • That's not true. I have 2 gsds and two chihuahua mixes. I used to focus all my time training the two GSDs thinking that the mixes weren't worth my time. NOT TRUE. After giving the mixes some attention I see that they're very trainable, and in certain areas are even better than the gsds at learning tricks and commands.

Every dog has it's own personality and potential.

  • good job. :)

  • Nope. We had a personal trainer when he was young and he learnt all the tricks (sit, down, stay, twirl, go round, bacck etc). But he never mastered actual obedience. He does come back on command if there is nothing to chase (squirrels, foxs etc). Funny you mention it we actually went to one today... didn't go well. He didn't like another dog shall we say. Took him home fustrated at that failure :(

  • Nice control.

MY WGSD is very smart but i can't seem to get him to stop trying to pull ahead... tried all kinds of systems but he seems to be much more persistant (like for his entire lifespan!). Any suggestions?
