  • :) that answered bunch of my questions. Anyhow regarding certificates - ROHS is indeed a problem and parts not compliant cannot be shipped to the EU :/ , regarding the mass market - doesnt the company want to challenge 'wintels' supremacy on the market? All they need is a good logistics/distributing company and they are good to go. There are bunch of people who look for alternative computers (non-pentium/amd and non-mac)this could be a perfect one.

  • They should show up something to the wintel. I agree with you. But i am worried about whether they know that their products are actually needed by a mass market. They have been criticized a lot in China. Too many people know nothing about Linux and asked them to support Windows. They blame Loongson that it is not Windows compatible and not for common people. But Loongson is a mips-instruction-set-compatible-alpha-like CPU with many new instructions. How can it go a WIN?

  • AND I would like to ask why Win? But the customers just have Windows-Washed minds. They do not want to try on new and better things. Moreover, the media always compare Loongson Box to big x86 machines in performance. They DIY a 1600RMB(~160 Euro) big stuff which can run Win and a lot PC games to mock at Loongson Box (sold at 1599RMB). I just don't know if Lemote can still believe in themselves and believe their market.

  • I have heard that it is supposed to be produced on a mass scale (as it was announced by the Chinese Academy of Sciences in november last year). What are the chances of this little sweet box hitting the European market? If so when (if ever)? Europe could use a cold shower when it comes to mini-computer prices... :)Although I believe that the Lemote box will appear in the US before it comes to Europe xD

  • Lemote, as a small company composed mostly by technicians and Linux developers, has no such power to deal with international market at present. They are not very good at business, actually. They are busy with software porting and developing, but not business. The fact make them kind and honest to users like us, but not competent to other companies.

  • The attitude of Lemote toward international purchase is that they can post the Loongson Boxes to Linuxers who are interested in such product. But no formal sale is available in near future.

Sorry to split message in so many pieces, but Youtube has a 500 char limit. :-(

  • I think its good . I believe that diversity in this world is a very good thing , being a slave of the US or Japan ,just because they have the technology i think is meaningless .

So .. Congrats China. AND For the free software movement .

  • Great work by Chinese engineers. x86 compatibility has already been worked out. What do most computers get used for in China/India ? Email, internet (shopping, booking ticks, accounts, read news), playing games, watching movies. Now why should that require the latest technology and the latest most cpu draining version of Win32 ?? Go China ! The third world and hackers internationally congratulate you.
