Here is a clip from the training class on Maui with Carlos and Peggy Hock from Uni-Solar. You will see a common screw up when the white release plastic gets split and then gets underneath the laminate. The solution is to carefully go backwards until you find the beginning of the split. I always laminate in the shade on a solid table. The roofing crate is handy to make one with some saw horses. Check out Carlos's rolling technique length wise and then side to side. You can see Steve Frayer showing how to keep a 20" diameter circle to prevent the stainless steel from getting kinked. This is not really a real world situation because they did not have a real 16" standing seam panel. This adds a level of complexity because you only have .25" to either side wiggle room. It must be dead on straight especially with the 18' PVL-136's or PVL-144's. So I always use three or more people instead of just two. Carlos and Terrance Parker with Uni-Solar have done 1000's of these so get 4 helpers if you can to get it straight. One time we didn't get the extra help and a 18' laminate climbed the wall some at the far end. I kept rolling it in the direction I wanted it to go and placed it out in the sun to heat up and rolled on it some more and it centered itself so we did not have to peel it back off and start over. Uni-Solar recommends throwing it away if you have to do that; screw that man! It worked fine with a meter check and was placed in service with the rest on the roof. Always clean the roofing with isopropyl rubbing alcohol 70% USP to get off any dirt and oil for a good bond. Laminate ON THE GROUND in the shade so you have good control. The laminate must be applied to an approved substrate and 100% bonded down to the roofing for the 25 year warranty. Another trick is to use a ball of the black adhesive to take off any extra adhesive which may get onto the roofing or the laminates, it takes it right off without any solvents. These PVL's are still pretty expensive even with the drastic pricing cuts in recent years so get extra help.
