(Rec Oct 14, 2011) I am Ghena. Oriental Sketch is a fun little piece w/odd history. Title is by publisher, not Rachmaninoff. Composed in 1917 (Moscow), first performed in 1931 at the Juilliard School (New York)

Between operating PrivateLessons.com - http://www.privatelessons.com, and coaching at The Curtis Institute of Music - http://www.curtis.edu and the Academy of Vocal Arts - http://www.avaopera.org, my practice time is zero.

To keep my piano playing in top shape, I made a New Year's resolution to practice one hour a day, every day, rain or shine.

When I was a student at Curtis, my piano teachers included Seymour Lipkin, Mieczyslaw Horszowski and Vladimir Sokoloff.

My latest project is the Russian Opera Workshop for singers and pianists. Details: http://www.russianoperaworkshop.com

  • Very unique interpretation - It seems this composition is not easy to play ... I also like Ruth Laredo's version from 1979 - LP

  • Good !(^_^)b
