First they break into regular programming, then they have technical problems, then they say they will return to regular programming, and then they're all, "Oh, ha ha, just kidding!" and stay on the news. Some people just want to watch TV, and don't appreciate having their television shows interrupted...

i'm no expert yet on news, but i do want to be an anchor. and i do know that you dont want to ever have technical diffuclties during a big press conference, your viewers would most likely turn to your rival station being fox 32,abc7, or cbs 2, and last but not least wgn.

ABC 7 (WLS has. In fact, both ABC 7 (WLS) and CBS 2 (WBBM) have extremely reliable newscasts. I know all stations have problems at some point. But WMAQ has WAY, WAY MORE!!

WMAQ (NBC 5) seems to have the most problems. and even more since they switched to HD. It's terrible. I remember a 10 PM newscast once where none of the videos for the stories would work and then the audio equipment started having problems as well. At the very least, it was entertainment.

WMAQ automated their control room at the same time they went HD. I haven't heard of any stations being able to pull off a newscast without mistakes after switching to automation.
