On June 4-6, 1942, a large Japanese force attempted to capture Midway Island in the North Pacific, but was defeated by U.S. forces with a loss ratio of 4:1 in favor of the Americans. On hand was a crew of naval photographers directed by John Ford; their documentary footage was edited together with narration by Hollywood actors. The film covers the attack on Midway, some limited aerial footage, the search for survivors, and aftermath of the battle

  • I had 3 uncles in the Navy, WW2. Only 1 saw "action" and he was critically injured. Got a purple heart and a broken back at the age of 19. I had 4 other uncles in Army and USMC. 3 of them were wounded, 2 lifetime disabilities. Thank God they all lived and all came back home to raise families. The USN in 1942 was WAY outgunned by the Japs but we did a number on them at Midway! They started it with a sucker punch and we finished it with 2 mushroom clouds! They asked for it...

  • @crazyhillbillies And if Coalition forces are pulled out of Afghanistan then I hope that a lot of Afghan women and children are allowed to be evacuated, too because if they are left behind, then God help them when the Taliban (and a lot of other male Afghans) start running things again. In that country, women who dare to think are putting their lives at risk. Those women ( and those Afghan men who aren't fanatics) want to make it a better place. They need our help. Let our troops finish the job.

  • @randy109 They sure did. Also, this particular film is the best wartime propaganda ever produced by the United States. John Ford was absolutely fabulous. THIS gave Triumph of the Will a run for its money in every way.

  • not the full movie as advertised - non responsive

  • This not the movie just a piece of it a full movie is more then just 17 minutes

  • @kurimawph

Thanks for answering my question. Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go listen to speech given by Emperor Obama.

  • @1942ann Again in WAR. Nobody wins! Soldiers and people will just follow their leaders. Remove the HEAD so that you can control the body. JAPANESE AND GERMANS are not bad people. Its the leaders and the idealism should end!

  • @WunderDoob thats what all people have in mind " why hirohito was not remove and executed". McArthurs brilliant tactical move not to remove EMPEROR HIROHITO did the job easy for the american forces to completely put japan under full control. japanese follows the emperor. the emperor takes order from McArthur.

  • @1942ann

Hirohito (I will not address him as an "emperor" because he doesn't deserve it) only issued the surrender order after Russia declared war on Japan. I have no idea why he wasn't arrested and executed, didn't give two shits about the people who were willing to die for him.

  • Six days after the detonation over Nagasaki, on August 15, Japan announced its surrender to the Allied Powers, signing the Instrument of Surrender on September 2, officially ending the Pacific War and therefore World War II.

  • @BikerRussell: Better them (they refused to surrender) than one more American life lost in a war we DID NOT want. Even after the two A-bombs were dropped it took more fire bombing before the Japs cried Uncle. Too bad we had only two A-bombs. Over all, the Japs got a lot less than they so richly deserved!

  • "I wonder how much better the Navy and Marine Corps(Hurrah) would've performed in the Pacific had Black people been allowed to fight. The Tuskeegee Airmen kicked Hitler's ass like a stepchild. So they probably would've done the same in the PTO."
