Kuredu 23rd Anniversary Cup

Dr Mariyam Zulfa, Minister of Tourism, Government of Maldives flew down to Kuredu with the Secretary General of Maldives Association of Tourism Industry (MATI), Mr Sim Ibrahim Mohamed to witness the final match of Kuredu Anniversary Cup Football Tournament played between Palm Beach Resort and Kuredu Island Resort and Spa on December 04th, 2011 - the resort's 23rd anniversary day.

The tournament, first of it's kind in the Maldives, was participated by Kanuhura Island Resort, Palm Beach Resort, Komandoo Maldive Island Resort, Hinnavaru Island, Naifaru Island, Zithali Resort, Trans Maldivian Airways, and Kuredu Island Resort and Spa. In the knock out tournament, Kuredu Island Resort and Palm Beach Resort stood their grounds to play the finals which was telecasted live on Dhi TV.

The ceremony began with a show staged by the children from Hinnavaru, followed by a performance from our Buduberu Team singing and playing traditional music.

Trans Maldivian Airways stunned the gathering with their salute by Flight Operations Manager, Captain Fahud by flying low an aircraft over the football court.

Dr Mariyam Zulfa then declared the match open. In her speech addressing the players, guests, and employees of both the resorts, Dr Zulfa appreciated the excellent organisation of the tournament headed by Filip Petre'. Referring football being the passion of Maldivians, Dr Zulfa highlighted on the discipline that the players need to exercise in order to excel in the game. She admonished the employees to carry this discipline into their work culture too and excel in their performance.

The two teams displayed dazzling footwork cheered heartily by the respective supporters. The well played match ended with Palm Beach claiming the winner's cup with a score of 3 goals in favour against 1 goal.

The curtains were drawn on the event after the awards were presented to the players of both the teams by the Minister Dr Zulfa.
