This is 100% legal in Florida and I ate the fish for food. If you complain about how this fish is harvested then you should never eat beef or even fish again. Please consider that 70% of all fish is from longlineing which has a very high by-catch rate. This is the most efficient way to havest a fish for food! • @tifadenacci i am pretty sure shallow water blackout leaves freedive spearfishing with more of a risk, spearfishing with tanks is just simple and easy

  • @splinb do you have tourettes, you are probably some little shit who just tries to pick a fight over the internet cause people would smash your head in, in real life

  • @Tommy70817 well it is pretty basic to just shoot the fish and not worry about anything else, such as breathing

  • @CaboDiving If you want to paint with a broad brush, I would argue that anyone can learn to hold their breath, but someone who has been trained to SCUBA dive and been certified, knows how to maintain neutral buoyancy in sensitive reef environments. There are extremes in both classes. Constantly bashing SCUBA divers who spearfish is beyond reason and is solely based on emotion. Neither group threatens to decimate any species. Both are the most selective hunters on the planet.

  • @CaboDiving This may be so(I have a degree in Marine Biology, and can tell you that population estimates on open water is FAR from an exact science, and anyone who says otherwise is full of it), but how do a few divers with spearguns even appear to be a blip in the total load of a fish population whether on tanks or not or even combined?

  • @Tommy70817

but i m sure we would agree that the main problem is the lack of protected areas ,worldwide less than 0.5% of the sea are limited fishing areas.Scientist say we would need 30% of the seas beeing off limits for fishermen, just to limit the current decrease in fish population.

  • @Tommy70817

I don't consider spearfishing on breathhold more respectul per se...yes it s with a spear in both cases ,,and yes some breathold spearos are idiots destroying nature for fun..but taking a sustainable fish to eat is fine for me.

But spearing on breathhold is a sport and requires practice before catching anything ,making it less destructive ,as only a few people can do it. With scuba ,any idiot who just passed his open water can go destroy a deep reef..

  • @accidentalfart And you know this how?

  • @CaboDiving No Cabo what I consider elitist is the fact that you consider spearfishing on a breathhold more respectful of nature than on SCUBA. The fish is taken by spear Period. Do you think it cares if the spear came from a free diver or a SCUBA diver? Being respectful of nature involves taking your prey quickly and using the resource in a respectful manner. It also involves only taking those prey that are in sustainable quantities.

  • @CaboDiving Greek poachers rape in 250 ft because of 2 reasons. 1.No adequate enforcement of current laws. 2. Freedivers have already raped the inshore waters so there is nothing to poach.

Once again, the lack of fish is not due to scuba but to the lack of proper fishery management and the poor enforcement of current laws for all users scuba and snorkle.

If you want to limit your freedom to shoot fish to your breathold limit, that is your choice. I'll take shooting big fish legally in the US!
