On July 25, 1951 Joe Von Battle either sold or leased several recordings that had been made in his record store in Detroit to Gotham Records in Philadelphia. Gospel songs by Emma L. Washington, black pop by the Variety Chocolate Bars, and blues by Lavoyde Nixon, Eddie Burns and someone that was simply labeled as W. Harris. Apparantly Gotham didn't care for the recordings by Harris as they stayed on the shelf for four decades.
