They've had some cruel things said about them...but now that they are performing well...
Kiwirail is now investigating a 'lite' version of the class for use on it's major coal route in the South Island of New Zealand.

@buttons0603 unfortunately as a dyed-in-the-wool steam fan since the 1950's I could never get too excited about diesel locomotives even British built ones.- but undoubtedly there is a mega amount of tractive effort available here & if they help to take more stuff off our crowded roads, well, then hey ! I love them - in fact, they are beautiful !
(Sorry, just noticed I missed the e off Crewe earlier)

@TruckerJamesHorrell UK and Turkey only at the moment

@thomas1140 Yeah it is a shame, prefer the 37s and such to this crap. 37s are REAL locomotives...

@RailwaySeriesKB LOL that's about right

Some say these locos are ugly - I guess that it's a matter of personal taste & opinion - To my mind what IS obscene is the fact that the UK has to import locomotives having lost her own 150 year loco building industry.
Still, - we had our day providing & explaining our railway technology to the underdeveloped counties of the day a century ago.
rip Vulcan Works, North British, Crew, Swindon et al.
