John Morris Rankin and Howie MacDonald play a set of tunes at the annual Mabou Ceilidh Days Concert ( July 1986 ) which usually took place on the Mabou Arena grounds and was seen as the " Kick-Off " to a series of summer festivals and concerts around Cape Breton Island , from Port Hawkesbury to Sydney to Big Pond , Whycocomagh , Inverness , Broad Cove , St. Ann`s Gaelic College , Cheticamp , St. Joseph Du Moine , Iona , Glendale , Scotsville , Creignish , Glencoe , Port Hood , Judique and more . Father John Angus Rankin and Archie Neil Chisholm , emceed this concert , as well as many other concerts on The Island . This video was recorded by Howard Sleep.

  • John Morris captured the Cape Breton sound better than any other fiddler with his hollowbody old Mabou coal mines style of playing....Simply the best sound ever.....

  • It's the Cape Breton version of the Irish reel "Toss the Feathers". It is likely that Johnny M is responsible for this setting of the tune. He frequently played these first three reels in this sequence ... the following two being "Mary McMahon" and "The Old Copperplate".
