  • We have found, whilst experimenting at our OLD Jersey, GC Training Group, that it's very difficult to keep a front choke on if the defender turns and goes into the Fright Reaction (followed, of course, by multiple striking - much like option 3 here).

  • @sledge56BV Fright reaction is great but usually used in an attack from the back or side where you just get a glimpse of or hear the attacker before he strikes and you're cutting off his entry angle to your head. With a front choke presumably you see him first clearly so the number one priority is to go straight for the eyes and throat with a spear hand, palm-gouge, neck chop or Y-hand to the trachea (CCUE/Prow). You can see this and more on the Companion 1 DVD.

  • Straight for the throat. I can't wait to attend more classes at Premier Fitness!

  • The jui jitsu technique as defense xan be made to work, but I tend to add a punch before going for joint locks of any kind...

My personal preference is the two finger spear to the throat, which you show quite well. The Y hand also serves and nicely. Not that found of the palm as a counter, but nicely demonstrated.

  • My mindset, anyone coming at my throat with intent to harm me is going to get what they need.

  • Great video's!

I think the biggest problem of the front choke is that in real life your attacker is probably someone you know, such as a boyfriend. This makes it becomes more of a psychological issue: are you prepared to defend yourself against someone you love in order not to become a victim? Students should make this choice beforehand, and then prepare accordingly (using mental imagery techniques).

Keep up the good work, I really like what you guys are doing!
