Aw screw it. Just ban hitting in hockey. The NFL has an injury list as long as your arm and they only play 16 games. Obviously something needs to be done about tackling. Flag football is a better alternative
Boxing; ban head shots and go to 32 oz gloves. Auto racing; people have been killed. Remember Dale Earnhardt, Ayrton Senna? Govern those engines down to 65 MPH. MMA; too dangerous. Let's ban anything that could cause injury, we wouldn't want anyone to get hurt.

Question to all you obvious state, conference - NCAA champion, national/olympic team players.........
Who, amongst all you brilliant puck handlers can control the puck (so much as a scant 20 feet (or less) without ever looking down at the blade and puck?

I keep hearing this "keep your head up" mantra, but even these depicted second class NHL players - who pale by comparison to you - are known to look down.

What is the secret to your brilliant (armchair), always heads up play?
Do tell.

Yeah and he's perfectly within his rights to hit players that can't get out of the way. I don't think he would have lasted as long as he did in the league if his judgment was so bad he had "bad defensive positioning" seeing how all those hits were on players who had the puck coming into the zone...

MOST of these hits are not dirty..bad positioning, yes..but not dirty..the offense need to keep their heads up and they will see it commin..as for the dirty ones, well, we all get penalties from time to time..its a part of the game..even though it isnt right and may hurt others, its unpreventable.

Most hockey fans don't like to see players get hurt, but there is no way to protect players from head shots without doing away with body checking altogether. Since a puck carrier in a skating posture is going to be leaning slightly forward, the leading edge of his anatomy will be his head. A defender stepping into him with his shoulder will naturally make contact with his head almost every single time. It's every player's responsibility to skate with his head up. Bad habits lead to bad results.

Stevens perfected the art of "Head Shots".
I love how the commentators get excited about concussions that ruin lives. Some day the NHL will wake-up like the NFL did, to stop the Head Shots.
Nothing clean about Stevens hits--Head hunting!

I can't believe all the whining on here about these brilliantly executed hits. Here we are about to lose one of the aspects of the game that make it stand out and people are crying about the brutality of the game. There was nothing wrong on any of those hits. Soon; checking will be completely illegal and they will be using a foam rubber puck.
