Ride on Citylink 2202 1991 TMC RTS-08 ex-CTA 4550

I recorded this ride during a trip to Peoria last October. The pictures I took during the layover. I remember the driver enjoyed driving this coach despite its age. This 1991 TMC RTS-08 was formerly a CTA coach, numbered 4550. Citylink bought 10 of these from the CTA about $900 for each.

Here 2202 is running on route 20 ICC Express.

The engine is a Detroit Diesel 6V92 mated with a ZF tranny. You can hear it quite well as the driver was nice enough to turn down the air.

I loved driving these RTS buses for CTA. I drove them out of Kedzie, North Park and Forest Glen Garages.

I used to rode this 4550 alot on CTA's 74th based routes like Routes:67, 9 , 55, 63, 8.

@chiefafro9er I usually think that M.A.N Americana (40ft) were alot faster than this, even faster than those Newer D40LFs (1000s).

This was when Chicago was REAL especially CTA with these good ol buses, since these were retired from CTA, that's when their service Cuts constantly gone bad and It's suppose to get WORSE.

I miss those things on CTA routes: 22- Clark, 79-79th, 3-King Dr, 4- Cottage Grove, 12-Roosevelt, 9-Ashland, 55-Garfield, 15-Jeffery Local, 21-CermaK, 151-SHERIDIAN (Fav route for TMCs), 201-Evanston, 97-Skokie, 29-State, 63-63rd, 82-Kimball/homan, 147-Outer Dr. Exp, 14-Jeffery Exp.

R.I.P 4400s- always in my memories, I love them to death.

Yep, only one bus motor noise I'll miss more than that...A M.A.N bus(40ft. not those raggedy-ass artics). This bus never got passed 50mph, but that sound made you feel like you was doing 100mph.

My favorite drivetrain and transmission combo! Excellent vid! Btw, the ZF transmission is probably the ZF 5HP-590 if I'm not mistaken...
