Tilopa wouldn't give the teachings to Naropa. It actually took 12 years before Tilopa agreed to give empowerment to Naropa. They were out in the desert and there was nothing to offer as a Mandala to his guru. So Naropa made a sand pile and peed on it. Tilopa accepted the offering and hit Narop gently on the head with his sandal. Naropa didn't fell unconscious but fell into deep samadhi for several days where he attain complete realization, experienced emptiness and great wisdom of non-duality...
