New Yorkers gathered to stand up against hate and anti-LGBT violence Sunday Nov. 22, 2009 at Pier 45 on the West side of Manhattan -- a week after gay 19 year-old Jorge Steven Lopez Mercado was brutally murdered in an anti-gay attack in Puerto Rico.

City Council Speaker Christine Quinn and Councilman-elect Daniel Drumm -- both openly gay -- spoke along with others from New York's LGBT and Latino communities.

  • I think he was killed too late. He lasted 19 years? 10 years or more of being fucked up in his ass? He should've been killed years ago... Then, he would have less chances of spreading AIDS among humans.

  • nobody cares. Nobody cares.

  • Its good to see gay people standing up for themselves instead of being scared of the ones in heels.

  • I would like to say why is it only when there seems to be a victim in the news we come together and remember, this is an everyday occurance, why are we not as active as the 1980 ACT UP group, flood your local authorites with calls, with letters, with demonstrations, we allow hate crimes to fluorish when we stand by and do nothing, I am so angry that people feel the need to hurt another because of their own insecurties, I blame the media, fmaily, and religious leaders and yes the authorites.
