Thank you for your comment. You Canadian's are so polite (I'm guessing your Nationality from your comment).
In which case may I put in a plea for Sir Humphrey Davy, who registered his patent in 1806, some 70 odd years before Edison! Also Joseph Swann who received a British patent for his light bulb in 1878, a year before Edison. Both gentlemen were English, of course.
