See how to cook those down home pinto beans. Low and slow gives them that great flavor that everybody loves. It's also more cost efficient to do them this way, as opposed to buying them in a can.

  • I beg to differ with you on soaking the beans. I never soak my beans and I cook them in my slow cooker and they cook perfect every time. Takes about 6 hours. Take care!

  • I'm a bachelor 'trying to cook' and I'm always trying to find more uses for my crock pot because it is so idiot proof and I can go to work while cooking at home. Growing up we had pinto beans but they were always quickly heated Luck's from a can. I just assumed that cooking dry beans was some magical art best left to the grandma's of yesteryear.

Your presentation is excellent. Wow, you use a lot of ham. So I did too! Delicious OLD FASHIONED beans I never thought I'd taste again. THANKS!

  • @lostindiancamp, Hope your beans come out good, when I make mine in the crock pot I of course sort them, then I wash them off, then I put them in the crock pot and let them cook about 6 hours they come out perfect! Take Care!

  • @skoggit I am 42 years old and am cooking pinto beans for the first time in my life. The recipe I have says to boil the beans for 2 minutes, cover and then let them soak in the hot water for 1 hour. Then add them to the crock pot, cooking on high for 8 hours.

Wish me luck. I am putting onion, salt, garlic and a ham bone in with the beans.

  • You ruin it with the swine!

  • @surrynet There's no reason you couldn't, but I can't imagine it would add a great deal of flavor to the beans. Ham shanks, personally I use bacon, adds that nice smoky salty flavor to the beans and the fat makes the juices thicken up. If you do add chicken, or have let me know how it turned out.

  • I wonder if you can put chicken breasts in while cooking?.

  • I never soak my beans and they turn out fine..but will also try this as well.

  • How much water did you put in the slow cooker with the beans?

  • Bean-tastic.
