It Was a Lie All Along (ずっとウソだったんだ) by Kazuyoshi SAITOH (斉藤和義)

Kazuyoshi Saitoh rewrote his hit song "It Was a Lie All Along" and made it into a protest song. I've taken the liberty of translating the lyrics into English.

この国を歩けば　原発が54基
Walk around this country and you'll find 54 nukes
教科書もCMも　言ってたよ｢安全です｣
The textbooks and the PSAs kept telling us, "They're safe."
俺たちを騙して　言い訳は｢想定外｣
They fooled us, and their excuse is, "We didn't anticipate this."
懐かしいあの空　くすぐったい黒い雨
Now there's a ticklish black rain falling from that big old sky.

ずっとウソだったんだぜ　やっぱバレてしまったな
It was a lie all along. Now the cat's out of the bag.
ホントウソだったんだぜ　原子力は安全です
It was really just a lie. "Nuclear power is safe."
ずっとウソだったんだぜ　ホウレン草食いてえな
It was a lie all along. And now the spinach isn't safe to eat.
ホントウソだったんだぜ　気づいてたろう この事態
It was really just a lie. They knew things were bad.

風に舞う放射能は　もう止められない
There's no stopping the radiation that's swirling in the wind.
何人が被曝すれば　気が付いてくれるの？　この国の政府
How many people have to be exposed before this country's government notices?

この町を離れて　うまい水見つけたかい？
Found any good water since you left your town behind?
｢教えてよ　やっぱいいや･･･｣　もうどこも逃げ場は無い
"Tell me the truth. On second thought, forget it." There's nowhere left to run.

ずっとクソだったんだぜ　東電も北電も
It was BS all along. TEPCO, and HEPCO
中電も九電も　もう夢ばかり見てないけど
CHUBU and KYUSHU. Their rose-colored glasses have broken.
ずっとクソだったんだぜ　それでも続ける気だ
It was BS all along. Yet they have no plans to stop.
ホントクソだったんだぜ　何かがしたいこの気持ち
It was really just BS. I need to act on these feelings.
