I think the second one far surpasses the first in terms of actual gameplay. As for setting and atmosphere, though? The first one knocks the second one right out of the park.

@puffman49 LOL! I didn't play the first until after the second had come out. I like the first one, but I think the second was an improvement, especially in terms of weapons. The first is so limited with what's offered, but the second one has tons of weapons at your disposal.

@puffman49 It seems to have died down a little now, but I used to read lots of comments from people saying how it sucked compared to the first one, the characters were lame compared to the originals, the tone sucked, the locations sucked. Basically, there was like a particular group of people who acted like the first one was utterly fantastic (which I'm not denying) and that the second one was a terrible follow-up that didn't deserve to be called "Left 4 Dead."
