Mr. & Mrs. Goswami - the bahurupies

Among the hundreds of people in this profession, we found this humble couple who does the act together oblivious of the modern world, live together happily in their profession.

Bahurupi is an art form used by some as their profession. They use costumes and colour to look like God and Goddesses and act like them. Mostly seen during the winter months when there are melas' like 'Gajanmela' and festivals in West Bengal, especially in Burdwan district and its surrounding areas, they ask for alms both in cash and in kind. Both children and adults dress up like Shiva, Parvathi and other Hindu Gods. They are seldom seen in Kolkata.
