Hopkins rolls out new orientation approach - "Lake Minnetonka Today" TV news Friday, Aug. 18
Yesterday, Hopkins North Junior High in Minnetonka took a unique approach to a new-student orientation.
About 300 incoming seventh-graders participated in the school's first Where Everyone Belongs Day. The students participated in a series of community-building and goal-setting activities under the leadership of volunteer freshmen at the school.
Here's a look at the event.
• Just down the road in Wayzata, Wayzata Community Church's 88th annual rummage sale was running at full steam.
More than 1,100 people lined up for the sale's kickoff on Wednesday morning, despite overcast skies and weather reports that predicted strong storms throughout the day.
About 500 volunteers including parishioners, community members, participants from the Salvation Army's "BOLT" program, which assists with basic job skills, and Hennepin County's Sentenced to Serve program, have worked since May to set up the annual event, which raised more than $180,000 last year.
Prairie Fire Children's Theater's production of Alice in Wonderland gets underway tonight at 6:30 p.m. at the Hilde Performance Center, which is located at 3450 Plymouth Blvd., in Plymouth. A second performance is scheduled for tomorrow night at 6:30 p.m.
The Excelsior Flea Market will be held tomorrow from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Lyman Park, 337 Water St., in Excelsior tomorrow.
More events can be found on our website Mnsun.com and in this week's edition of the Sun-Sailor.
Just a reminder that students in the Hopkins School District will return to classes on Monday, Aug. 31.
