About lyrics he wrote for french artists (Christophe, Patrick Juvet, Françoise Hardy,...), he was quite successful. He wrote several hits like "Les mots bleus", "Senorita", "Les paradis perdus", "La dolce vita", "Ou sont les femmes", "Les bleus au coeur", ... All written between 1973 and 1977.
In 2011, there will be a new Best Of including his first works -before Oxygen- (called "rarities").
@Theotim92 That is interesting. I thought Jean-Michel owned his own synthesizers from an early age. Surely he could afford them, with his father being such a successful composer?
Of course it is honourable if Maurice made Jean-Michel stand on his own feet instead of borrowing!
Yes he improved a lot after, when he worked during nights in recording studios (the only place he could play with expansive synthesizers). Quite the same time he started to write lyrics too for Christophe and other french artists ;)
It was his first attempt about electroacoustic music, in 1969. Based on his work at the GRM at the time he was there ;) (GRM or MRG in english = musical research group, founded by Pierre Schaeffer)
@Jarren202
yes he did.
;)

@Theotim92 Oh, I am sad to read that. I hope Jean Michel made peace with his father before he passed away.

No
Maurice didn't help his son.
He was divorced from Jean Michel's mother and moved to USA without taking care of his ex family.
Jean Michel and Maurice spent lots of years without having contact !
I think you can find some videos on youtube showing Jean Michel working in a recording studio (maybe around 1974, I don't remember).

@Theotim92 Yes, indeed. I am just thankful he was able to progress to make so many masterpieces such as Oxygene and Equinoxe!
I do respect his early compositions, but in relation to artists such as Delia Derbyshire he was certainly an amateur in his early phase...

@Theotim92 Ah, thank you! I have heard it, and I am not surprised it sold 117 copies. :P

It's "La Cage / Erosmachine", a SP, not a LP
