oh yeah, we get a lot of coyotes (the canine kind) at night in rural east san diego county, but they steer clear of our place. nobrie and my red chow-weiler cisco always go after them. cisco is 11 and really hates coyotes, a pack of them nearly killed him up on mount laguna in 2002. good life to you and hamish...

my dog nobrie is most or all huntaway. she is a fantastic runner, jumper, and jack-rabbit hunter. she tries to take our neighbors' chickens, turkeys, and peacocks, so we have to watch her. my local pet store sold her twice, but she kept running back there- even though both buyers took her home in their cars (one nearly a mile away) wow she has the huckleberry hound ears and the spread haunches jus like your hamish. very good dogs worth hunting for.....seriously

Never even heard of a huntaway until about 3hrs ago!!Lo and behold!! the dog I picked up from the pound (almost) 3 years ago looks amazingly like this!! and to think i called her my 'lottery' dog (thought she was a cross of (maybe) kelpie, (maybe) healer, (maybe) staffy, (maybe) rotty, (maybe).....rofl!!!Same floppy ears, same head, same black markings, pulls the same facial expressions, same obvious loyalty, same white blaze.... only diff is, mine is brindle where Hamish is tan!!! *amazed*!!

Just realised the wonderful dog we lost 3 years ago was a huntaway. Really, once I saw the pictures of this breed it was obvious. He looked just like this, loved to swim, talked - honest to God! Used his sight to track things but had the keenest instincts to seek out something lost. He was so intelligent, sensitive and devoted. I always thought he was too handsome and noble to be a mongrel. We've still not got over losing him.

Gorgeous Hamish Wendy, we had a similar looking dog when i was younger (he wasn't pale on bib) I'll have to show you a pic sometime.
Look the BIG sticks he drags along the ground :-)
Love this! We have a 4 month old pup that was ALSO from a dog rescue ALSO described as mixed breed, we thought she might be rotti/kelpie. Now she's older, well, pretty sure she's "straight" huntaway. But like with ToxicNight65's dog she doesn't bark much. She did in the first few weeks we had her, and we told her off - probably a sign of the trainability. However, when she does bark, it's loud and powerful, especially coming from a pup. Awesome, awesome dog.

Yeah that looks like a Huntaway. Take good care of him. We've just lost our one, she was 15 and a half. I'll agree with wildasangels that they never shut up though! But they are so worth the noise.

Yes I agree, my previous dog only barked about twice in her life, so I've gone from one extreme to the other, cheers for the comment
