  • Wow. Is 160km normal? Cause if so then German drivers must be the best in the world. Honestly I would be too afraid to ever drive that fast. The fastest I've ever driven was 130km and even then I felt like I had less control of the car. I'm comfortable up to 115km and that's about it (I know, I'm such a lame driver -_-). Would that be too slow on a normal day on the autobahn?

  • @panthersftw12 The autobahn does have speed limits in many areas. They are the best. I think you have to study for two years to get your licence!

  • if you see no no speed limit signs you are allowed to drive as fast as you want but you are not allowed to drive to slow with no reason.

the triangular signs means always attention. if there are 3 cars behind each other on the triangular sign sign like at.4:58. It means "attention! there could be a traffic jam". If there is a deer on that sign it is possible that wild animals might jump on the road.

And you are only allowed to use mobile phones if the engine of the car is turned of.

  • @andypfeif At those speeds any distraction is a hazard!

  • I'm sorry if I misunderstood the point from early in your conversation, but speed limit _signs_ are no suggestions. You might be lucky that a cop won't pull you out if you "follow the flow", but a speed camera won't care about that.

Thanks for pointing out another common and life-threatening mistake many foreigners seem to make: Autobahns always only have 1 driving lane (the rightmost) which must be used unless you're overtaking someone. Then, you switch to the one left of it (and so on).

  • @ixiwildflowerixi No, only in Canada the speed limit is treated like a suggestion as they don't ticket until you are 15km over the limit. So everyone drives at least that fast. Makes it hard to teach a new driver to obey the speed limit!

  • 1. most of the cars that go over 300 km/h you see them after 24:00. Where there is hardly no traffic.

    2. where there are roadworks there are speed limits.

    3. In Europe we use metric units and not imperial units.

4.. German drivers are the best in the world so they deserve no speed limit.

  • @panthersftw12 when i'm on the autobahn i usually drive at speeds of about 180-220 km/h. i no one is blocking the left lane, that is.

  • @IndyRamMan - actually, the number in the red circle is the speed limit, there are a lot of sections on the autobahn that are limited for different reasons, only when passing a black circle with a diagonal black line you enter a section without speed limit - nonetheless the recommended speed is still 130 kmh - going faster is your own responsibility (can get problems with insurance in case of an accident )

  • @NancyToday Oh, that's quite interesting and, indeed, seems rather counterproductive.

I couldn't make it out clearly and there actually is a speed recommendation regarding the autobahn: 130km/h in otherwise unrestricted areas. You may drive faster, but if something happens you'll likely receive part of the blame (both insurance-wise and legally). ^-^

Anyway, thanks for the fast reply and clearing that up. Hope you enjoyed your time here. ;-)
