He is 100% right that your friends will hold you back. My friends are giving me a hard time right now, saying that I need to "stop trying to be cool" and that I need to "embrace" my true personality. The whole reason that I started to want to change my personality was because they were also pointing out how awkward I was.

One thing you guys need to pick up on that all major PUA do, is speak well. Style does not say "umm" once. To start improving yourself, notice how many time you say umm while speaking and every time you catch yourself, mentally recognize and make a note to stop saying umm. This will help you immensely when talking to girls.
