  • Why is it so hard to find the damn ORIGINAL version of this song?

This version is really crap and hasn't the same dynamics of the original...

  • @meltedmoonlight

This is the original. Recorded in 1975 from the Mental Notes LP...you're thinking of the 1976 re-recording from the "Second Thoughts" LP.

    Your mileage may vary :)

  • @Mellovisions just drive on the nullabor plains, at night, and then play second thoughts, stoned in a truck

  • It's good to see people still comenting on Splt Enz so many years since they started. They touched so many peoples lives and were in a league of thier own with so many dedicated followers!

  • lots of cofusion about Mental Notes and Second Thoughts verions of this song and others. Depends what part of the world you live!

  • Tremendous song. So original. So powerful

  • @Mellovisions Seems to be some confusionn over Mental Notes and Second Thoughts depending on if your from the UK or NZ/AUS

  • thanks for posting just love this track ;)

  • Brain-boggingly bizarre. Love the OLD Split Enz. With Phil Judd. Hugely underrated band. Mind-altering. Mental Notes is their Darkside of the Moon.

  • @Mellovisions

This is correct. I actually own the original vinyl with the gatefold cover released on the Aussie label 'Mushroom Records'. It was also reissued the following year (1976) under the same title as a single pocket cover on 'Chrysalis Records' UK. As you mentioned, this song was re-recorded for the 'Second Thoughts' LP...also in 1976. I prefer this version.
