Hannya is one of the best known characters in Japanense Noh Plays.
One legend of the Hannya myth speaks of a beautiful woman who falls madly in love with a Buddhist priest but was rejected because of his priestly status. Her longing and desperation, the tragedy and pain of her unrequited love turns her into a she-devil consumed with rage, jealousy, anger and revenge.
Video shows a hand carved very old wooden Japanese Noh Mask. Link to Wikipedia discussion about Japanese Noh Theater: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Noh
