Christians Protest Over Hindu Violence

In India violence has rocked the state of Orissa since Monday when Hindu extremists set fire to an orphanage, killing one person. Let's take a look at what's going on there.

STORY:
Christians marched in the Indian capital today to protest against religious violence in the Kandhamal district in eastern Orissa state. The violence was sparked by the killing of five people, including a Hindu leader whose goal was to reconvert Hindus and tribal people from Christianity. Hindus are blaming Christians for the killings, but Christians are adamantly rejecting the accusation.

Angered by the violence, Christian protesters are saying that Hindu religious fundamentalists are infringing on their human rights.

[Vincent Concessao, Christian Archbishop Protester]:
"The behavior of the fundamentalists and communal groups have rejected our constitution, they have no regard for human rights, for constitutional rights, for freedom of conscience and our people are feeling very, very insecure there. They are running away and their houses are being burnt by these people. The situation is not improving, more and more people are taking shelter in the jungles. And so, something more effective needs to be done."

A Christian delegation met Indian prime minister Manmohan Singh on Thursday demanding immediate intervention by the federal government.

The Kandhamal region is full of religious tension between hard-line Hindus who accuse Christian priests of bribing poor tribals and low-caste Hindus to change their faith. But Christian organizations have denied the accusation.

How is it backwards? Christianity has a book that says rabbits chew cud and insects have 4 legs and the world is a flate plate with a crystal dome for a sky, while Islam teaches hate every other page such as saying that Jews are apes and the greediest people on earth. All religions are backward by nature expcept maybe atheistic or pantheistic Buddhism

How exactly does Christianity hurt anyone? What have they done to hurt your community?

Your Hindus, you should care the least of anyone what faith someone professes. Doesn't Your faith teach that beleif is irrelivent and that a persons moral decisions are what count?

It looks like a foreign mediated conpiracy to destablisize India. We can't say who shot the swami first. It could be christian fundamentalists or Hindu fundamentalists. In some aspect both are guilty. Having our country ravaged by christian imperialism and colonialism by 300 + years it is not worth trying to balance the past sins. SOme one says many people will turn to christ but did christ really want all to convert? for that he has to come again.

I pity christian people, becos if they want followers they have to do these kind of cheap conversion gimmicks upon poor and ignorant people in the name of Service.
