Hi guys,

wow that looks great. I have a question for peopel in the knpw - i am moving to chicago for 5 years to do my phd. i am from cornwall in england where it gets medium coldish in the winter (you need a 5mil, boots gloves, hood) so I'm not too worried about that. Any ideas where i can get a wave near Chicago? by the way, You cant believe how relieved I amto see proper waves in the great lakes - i was dreading having to wait til myholidays to get in

Well before yesterday, surfing was illegal in Chicago but we finally go it (partially) re-opened after 20+ years. 41st Beach will be open to surf all year, Montrose, Osterman, 57th St & Rainbow will be open Labor Day - Memorial Day. Many guys travel to WI or IN however, but they have sworn me to secrecy on those spots. Actually, its not that hard to find if you look.

don't listen to the naysayers, they are almost always wrong. But you do need to surf well to surf shortboard, you need to be able stay in the pocket.

in the summer is it ever warm enough for no wet suits?

I surfed at least 6-8 times in trunks, some days just a rash guard, others a 2mm top and trunks.

So the Great Lakes do have some type of wave. Looks too damn cold for me to be in the water. I'll stick to paradise...
