I just found out about the death of Fess Parker. Tragic! He was my hero growing up as a kid in the mid to late 70's, i spent many of days tramping through the woods pretending to be Davy Crockett and Daniel Boone. I live here in Eastern Tennessee where Crockett was born and where the Cumberland gap is... Fess Parker take your rest in God's Arms you will be missed.

Yeah, I had the cap, the musket, the "buckskin" clothes, etc. too. Yep, again. Me and my friends spent a lot to time out in the woods camping, hiking, canoeing, fishing and such... .Kids today are too pampered...

Amen! I'm a 1946 baby-boomer who grew up on Fess Parker.

Bravo! My mother and I met Fess Parker at a Walnut Creek wine event. As he graciouly autographed a bottle of Syrah for me, my Mother smiled and said "I really used to hate you. " Mr. Parker replied that he couldn't imagine what he might have done to provoke such a reaction. Mom shared how I would play the Ballad of Davy Crockett over and over when I was 4, until out of desparation she secretly broke the little 45 record - this was news to me! Mr. Parker laughed long and hard at the story.

Fess Parker died today at the age of 85, He was born in Ft. Worth, Tx. on August 16, 1924, and he graduated from the University of Texas.
His running buddy on "Davy Crockett," Buddy Ebsen, died on July 6, 2003. Buddy went by George Russell. Buddy was to play the tin man in the "Wizard of Oz", but he had bad reactions to the make-up. He was replaced by Jack Haley.
Fess Parker's bit in the movie "Them" will also never be forgotten. Two great actors gone.
I love this song! Does anybody have a copy of the lyrics? I'm afraid some of them get lost in the audience's applause.

Glad you like it...it was fun to write. The link to my blog post with the lyrics is in the information box to the upper right of the video. There are a couple of other posts about my interview with Fess Parker, as well as some fun photos of him as Davy Crockett.
