I took this Jake on Tuesday May 6, 2008 at 5:30 AM. I was hunting alone and shot the video myself while hunting. The reason that you can see so much of the shotgun muzzle is that I was using the tripod control handle as a gun rest. I had these birds pattern figured out and set up to intercept them. The bird I shot is a jake. They were all coming to the hen decoy I had to my right. The four turkeys and I all flinch seconds before I shoot because I was startled by a little bird flushing out of the brush behind me. My guess is that the turkeys were startled by my flinch.

I was lucky to have captured the shot on video as the camera memory went full 4 seconds after I shot the bird.

  • what type of gun?

also, i think i have the same sights.

  • Remington 870 Express Magnum. I have the glow sights on but I was using a red dot with zore magnification for this hunt. 3" Winchester Supreme #5 load. The shot cup went about a yardpast the bird and the wad 2 yards short of it. I'd guess is that he was dead before the flapping started!

  • That was awesome. Great job! Your lucky you took the shot when you did, for a couple reasons. The film, and the alarm putt one of the turkeys made. More then likely they would of been gone not to long after.. Congrats on your turkey. Wish me luck harvesting and filming my own hunt!

  • Thanks again and good luck to you!

  • @Number8WireNZ Then your birds down there are obviously very distant and retarted cousins to the turkeys we have here in virginia. I challenege anyone around here to drive up to a turkey and shoot it.

  • i love hearing that first gobble

  • I hate to tell you this, but in New Zealand we don't hide out and call them in, We just ride up to them on our quad bikes and blast them. It just doesnt seem fair sometimes...

  • NICE! Did you kill it?

  • i remember my first bird like it was yeasterday a big tom with 4 hens the hens saw our jake decoy and came in the tom followed after calling and stuff for 30 mins on opening morning he followed the hens and came in after another 20 minutes he was at 30 yard and gobblen and he kepy coming just before he jumped on our decoy to attack i clicked off the saftey and clucked once so he poped up his head and my remington 870 super mag with 3.5 inch shells went off and a bird droped dead.
