  • I am not a musician but it sounds so interesting and modern and beautiful. Was it uncompleted or revised or something like that? This quartet could have been more famous considering the musical tastes of our time. The emotional tension is unmistakably and purely mahlerian. thank you!

  • Thank you! If you click the top right corner of the video where says " About this video " you will get more information about it. It was written as piano quartet when Mahler at the age of 16.

  • that was inspiring. so good.

  • Thank you! At the age of 16, hi picked simple 3 notes and turned into a such deep felt work that almost predicted the out come of his later life.

  • Listening to this makes me wonder why he never wrote more chamber music. I mean, this is, in my opinion, far from as brilliant as his symphonies, but its still quite beautiful, especially considering he was only 16 when he wrote it.

Anyway, thanks for posting this rare and overlooked piece!

  • It's probably because the opening piano motif is reminiscent of Brahm's first piano concerto =]

  • very,very good

  • I agree. This is Mahler in his embryonic form.

  • There is some Brahms feel, but the distinct signature of Mahler is obvious, and this deep composition is a clue of his future masterpieces.

  • I'm really glad to know about this piece. I'd not heard it before. I'm going to spend some time with it, to learn more about the young Mahler.

Mahler's dates, by the way, are more like 1860 - 1811. The dates you have here I'd peg as belonging to Bohuslav Martinu.
