It's okay to be atheist.

It's not okay to be an atheist that says religion is bullshit and everyone who follows it should kill themself.

It's okay to be christian.

It's not okay to be homophobic, racist and downright cruel because the bible states that homosexuals are sinners and so on.

Don't you mean 100% of all god-related ideas are crap? a god is just another supernatural claim, to which there is no more evidence than there is for other supernatural claims, like ghosts.

but your last sentence sums up how I feel. If the "higher power" is symbolized as energy/unknown power, then it might as well be Dark Matter or Dark Energy. Many things fit those 2 criteria.

Today I was in the bank and some schlock started telling me how CNN was going to be there soon with their big satellite dishes, and how Obama was putting people in jail for even suggesting assassination, and how the cops were corrupt, and on and on , and I just wanted to deposit some money for once.

I would guess most government spending on such programs would dwarf the contributions made by churches but am too lazy to google it. On the other hand how many lives have been ruined and destroyed by the hatred bred in religions like the Westboro Baptist Church. How many lives and buildings have been lost to the violence of religious fanatics? The only reason the church does those things is it feels guilty for everything else it has done, including molesting the flock.
