@thegreatestbak -as a postnote, you can wiki all the states/dynasties i have mentioned or about the Imperial chinese political system as reference. :D
-
@thegreatestbak - Finally, i would argue the (relative) unity and consolidation in china is due to the ancient tribulary system. In china (at least until 1949) actual political domination was never the priority, rather a system where a neighboring state or ethnic group swears alligeance and loyalty to the central state (China) is valued. This is why in the past many minority governments (e.g. Khitan, Western Xia, Nanyue) are allowed to exist despite chinese dominance.
-
@thegreatestbak - The second reason is, as Tobeornot00 has said, there is in some ways a form of "cultural imperialism" that existed in china since the Han Dynasty (206 BCE-220CE), which actively tries to assimilate neighboring tribes and minority groups into the dominant chinese cultural sphere. Hence this is the reason why despite there are over 56 minority groups in china, the majorty (minus some such as Mongolians, Manchurians, Uyghurs and Tibetans) use the chinese script.

@thegreatestbak There are several reasons for this:
- I personally agree with the theory proposed by Martin Jacques that china is a civilisation state. So rather than being a state defined by political structure or national boundaries, it is a state defined by culture. This is the reason why despite the fact China is only a politically unified state in 221BCE, the chinese considers their roots to be much older, beginning at Xia Dynasty at circa 2070 BCE.

So glorious!
-
you're right!my parents are peasants too.and peasants mostly would rather follow their traditions than other walks of life.
the common historical past is also a factor to the national unity.
and don't forget the chinese characters.poeple of different dialects or languages just use the same writing characters.they can "read-understand" each other even if they can't "listen-understand" each other.
-
i think most chinese must be peasants and i is easier to unite a country of farmers just like russia. I also agree that older civilizations tend to have a common historical past that unites them.
-
that is all because of the 5,000 years old unintermitted and unintermittable Chinese civilisation!
-
yeah,cool!
Go China!
Beijing did a wonderful job here, they should be proud. You know I am getting tired of the whole free tibet and what not thing...when it concerns the Olympics
