I create KNO3 using household chemicals following NurdRage's tutorial. I made the KNO3 using KCl and NH4NO3.
KCl is found as No Salt a sodium free salt at some stores.
NH4NO3 is found in instant cold packs.

Equation to make KNO3: NH4NO3 (AQ) + KCl = NH4Cl (AQ) + KNO3 (AQ)

The solution is cooled and the KNO3 is precipitated out.

  • @opaldragonmb I don't believe any ammonia (NH3) gas is produced in this reaction:

    NH4NO3 + KCl = KNO3 + NH4Cl

  • lol you can make KCL yourself if you burn flash powder

  • You know there is another way of making it, this way is an ancient way but still works, put stale urine in a jar with straw, wait a coupl months then filter the straw through water, take that water and filter it through wood ash, then dry the solution, I'm not gonna explain all the science though

  • let it sit out in the sun, perhaps? that might work...

  • you need to make a deskator bag with amona nitrate sub scribe and ill sho you how to make one bro

  • Simple displacement reaction~?

  • bro two words (desecator bag)

  • boil it

  • can ordinary salt can be used

  • The reason it was still mushy, is because, you need to have it dry out with normal room temperature, that means, don't put a cap on it, the water in the mixture will vaporize at room temperature. Guess it's too late now, ain't it, 2012 :D

  • what is an anti-kicking agent and how to i find out if my ammonium nitrate has it?
