We caught up w/ Cindy Campbell who we consider to be the first lady of Hip Hop. We talked to her about the work she's done on behalf of her brother Hip Hop pioneer DJ Kool Herc. We talk to her about what took place August 11 1973 at 1520 Sedgwick Ave which was home to the first Hip Hop party.

Cindy explains that the party started out as a fundraiser for her to get some school clothes. She talked about how they actually had Old E 800 and Colt 45 being sold there and how it was a 25 cent for women and 50 cent for guys.. They made 500 bucks

She also explained how she herself brought slow jam records for her brother to spin..

Cindy also talks about other deals she's done for her brother including how she talked Harry belafonte into making sure Herc's character was positive in the movie Beat Street.

  • And yes if moms helped out and played an instrumental role then moms would be first lady as well.. Peace Love, Unity and Having Fun is the ethos of the culture.. Cindy along with her brother exemplify Unity.. why is this an issue?

  • Then u miss the point of the interview on 2 pts.. First where she stands is determined by her peers.. 5 years ago Cindy who has never step in the spotlight and laid claim to anything was honored by fellow pioneers and practioners at H20 awards.. No one else seemed to have a problem.. why do?

Second, Sure herc had a musical vision and his sister put together an event which was a foundation for things to come.. It was both.. herc himself acknowledges this..

  • If you know anything about Hip Hop Godfather Kool Herc you know that Cindy and him are damn near joined at the hip. Yo Dave I wouldn't waste breathe on those that have no clue or even breathed in real Hip Hop party before it was recorded As far as hip hop were it is now this new era of hip hop is wack really have to look to see who has the elements of hip hop and find some!

  • I'm all for crediting unsung heros but I dont understand how she was the first lady of hip hop......Had Kool Herc not thought about playing the breaks of the records the party would have been like any other surely?.....Herc was the revolutionary. She had no idea or took no part in what Herc was thinking musically.....If her parents were there you could argue that her Mum was the first lady of hip hop for alllowing the party to go ahead lol

  • i mean her response was lame to your question, i should have said.

  • lame response to her take on hip hop today, no substance
